Facts about Amethyst

Amethyst are violet or purple varieties of quartz. It was once believed that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness. The ancient Greeks and Romans made drinking cups of amethyst and wore amethyst believing that it would prevent intoxication.

Traditionally amethyst was one of the most valuable gem stones, but since the discovery of extensive deposits in locations such as Brazil, has lost most of its value.
