Facts about Willow

There are about 350 species of willow world wide. These deciduous trees are found mainly growing on moist land in the cooler northern hemisphere. The male and female flowers of the willow appear as catkins on different plants in the early spring. The fruit is a tiny capsule containing many seeds coated in a white down to assist in the dispersal of the seeds.

The bark of the willow tree was used as a remedy for aches and fever as early as the 5th century BC.
